This picture is not just Dan Gable holding his gold medal from the 1972 Olympic games in Munich. It represents the hard work and dedication that he had for the sport. Dan Gable was not scored on in the games he wrestled 1 of the 2 styles in the games witch was freestyle a very fast action style of wrestling. He came over a sad and mind blowing lost his senior year at Iowa State. He lost to Larry Owings and he was a Junior. Dan Gable lost and that change his mindset he went 182-1 in his college career. He took that lost to power him to in his training and to become the best wrestler that he could be.
He then with his gold medal after the winning the Olympic games in 1972 he joined the Iowa wrestling coaching staff that same year. From there his coaching career took off. At one point he went on to coach the Olympic team three times and was the assistant coach for the Olympic team. Also the world coach for team USA. Gable gave the Hawkeyes a big boost they had seven undefeated seasons. As a wrestler and a coach Gable is one of the best no questions asked.
I can relate to this in many ways like how I want to be standing on the podium representing the US in the Olympics like he did. Gable had to train hard to be the best and I train hard to be the best I can and try to beat the top ranked guys.
